Liquid Lies

Arizona State University’s Visual Communication Design senior class annually hosts an exhibition where each student researches a social issue and designs a physical exhibit along with supporting collateral. The goal is to visually engage visitors in order to effectively educate them about the topic.

For the 2023 senior exhibition, Shifting Perspectives, I titled my portion of the exhibit Liquid Lies. It highlights the dangerous nature and hidden truths of energy drinks. To communicate my research, I designed an interactive display panel, an informational brochure, and a promotional keychain. The design is intended to elicit a sense of danger and uneasiness in the viewer as they uncover the truth about energy drinks.

A physical brochure concisely summarizing information from the exhibit.

The brochure’s shape and size is inspired by energy drink cans and features the exhibit’s branding on the exterior cover.

The icons and graphic style of the brochure is inspired by warning labels regularly seen on consumer products. Each icon was designed by hand then vectorized in Adobe Illustrator.

A promotional keychain inspired by energy drink can tabs. The keychain deteriorates slowly over time to remind visitors of the exhibit’s overall message.
